We deliberately planned on not having a birthday party for Kaitlyn. She’s at a stage right now where she does not want to be the center of attention (though from the last post, I would have a hard time believing it). So instead, we took her to the Please Touch Museum in Philly. There was definitely some concern on our part whether Kaitlyn and Julia would last long enough there before having a meltdown. Thankfully, they didn’t, and we had a great time.

After a long absence, I’m going to fire up this blog again.
So what’s happened in the last couple months?
- Kaitlyn turned 2 a few weeks ago. We went to the Please Touch Museum for her birthday instead of having a party. But then we ended up having an impromptu gathering anyway.
- I was in Chicago for a couple days in May, then in Phoenix for 10 days in June, then in New Orleans for a day and Dallas for a day. All work related stuff.
- We went to NY for 4th of July.
- Julia has finally done #2 on the potty – after an epic struggle. Though it seems like no amount of bribes can help get her to do with any regularity.
- Rick, Niki, Collin, and Caelie visited for a couple days. We went to Philly and saw all the historical stuff – Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, but not the Mint. No cameras allowed, and with nowhere to leave it, we’re out of luck.
Stay tuned for some more pictures too. I’ve got some queued up already, and more are at the ready.
Julia has figured out how to draw a face on her magnetic board. She has always drawn random stuff, but yesterday was the first time she has actually started to draw faces.
More gold from Julia…
A few days ago, I had given Julia and Kaitlyn their vitamins. They love it; Sharon or I can just say “Who wants vitamins?” and they jump up and down and run to the kitchen.
Anyway, I give them their vitamins, and remind them to say “Thank You.” Most of the time, they are good about it, but they had forgotten that night.
Julia and Kaitlyn: Thank You.
Me: You’re welcome. I want my girls to be kind.
Julia: Kind?
Me: Yes, kind is to be nice to other people.
Julia, thinking for a few seconds: I’m not kind… I’m pretty.
At that point, it struck me that we’re raising a diva…

Conversations With Julia – Part 3
Julia is on the potty, and Kaitlyn is playing in the sink with a soap container. Kaitlyn drops the container in the sink and says, “Oh no!”
Julia, Kaitlyn, and me: “Oh no!”
We go round and round a couple times, saying “Oh no!”
Then, out of nowhere, Julia says, “Mr. Bill!”
I haven’t seen those Mr. Bill commercials in several months, so either Julia has either seen it recently, or has a really good memory.
This took place last night. Julia was having a tea party, and Sharon and I were sitting at the (play) table in her kitchen (in the living room).
Julia: The A and the T and H all broke!
Me: They all broke? Oh, no!
Julia: Yeah… it was an awful scene.
At this point Sharon is laughing uncontrollably on the floor. I’m laughing. And Julia is looking at us, wondering what in the world is going on.
I came to find out later that Julia was referencing a WorldWord episode, where a hat broke.
In the not too distant past, Kaitlyn and Julia decided they should play peekaboo during dinner. This by itself is not a big deal; they often play peekaboo during dinner, especially Kaitlyn. But this time, I had the camera ready to take a video.

I’m not sure why they go so crazy, but it’s fun to watch regardless.
Julia went to the dentist last week for the very first time. We were surprised that she was so good. This video is Julia discussing her toothpaste and toothbursh. Quite funny, but be sure to listen closely.

Julia turned 3 on Saturday, and we had a party for her. I can’t believe she’s already three years old! I still vividly remember taking Sharon to the hospital at 4am, then waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more. I remember cradling Julia and taking her right to the nursery from the OR, scared out of my mind that I was going to trip and fall. And now she’s three!
