There isn’t much to this picture update. However, Kaitlyn did get her very first bath this past week. Her cord fell off a couple weeks earlier than Julia’s did, I guess Kaitlyn is just advanced already…
Mom and grandma gave Kaitlyn a bath to make her smell all nice and stuff. Naturally, Kaitlyn did not really like getting a bath, and made quite the fuss. It will take some time and soon she will be loving baths like Julia does today.

Julia continues to shower Kaitlyn with affection. Sharon has to keep Julia from getting overzealous with Kaitlyn, but that doesn’t really seem to deter Julia.
As always, Julia is caught clapping in the video (twice!). Look for Julia’s random facial expression around the 1:16 mark. I’m not exactly sure what to make of it, but it is pretty funny.

We didn’t do much for the Fourth of July except have a photo shoot with Julia and Kaitlyn. Julia then saw some of the “fireworks” being set off in the street, and went to bed. We contemplated whether we wanted to take her to see the fireworks over at Grimsley, but decided not to, seeing how Julia didn’t care much for them last year. That, and we were tired.

Julia is helping out with taking care of Kaitlyn by making sure the swing works correctly. She gets a bit too excited, so we have to calm her down a bit before Kaitlyn gets thrown about too much. She ends the video with the requisite self-applause we’ve all come to expect.

I continue to be amazed at how well Julia is doing with Kaitlyn. Julia really wants to be involved, and we are letting her do some small stuff, like handing us diapers or washcloths. She really likes touching Kaitlyn’s nose and giving her kisses on the forehead.
Julia has also come into possession of an inflatable castle, thanks to Grandma Fox. Julia really had a ball on it earlier this week, but we had to cut it short because it was getting a bit hot outside for her.

In this video, Julia is sitting next to Kaitlyn just after we get home from the hospital. We were a bit concerned on their first meeting in the house, but our fears were quickly erased.

Kaitlyn came home today! It’s only been two days since she was born, but both she and Mom are doing well enough to come home a day early. So far, our early fears of Julia not taking to Kaitlyn very well have (very thankfully) not come to pass.
Kaitlyn has also been (knock on wood) easier to care for than Julia when we first got home. Maybe it’s the experience, or maybe it’s the fact that Kaitlyn just sleeps all the time, or maybe it’s the fact we’ve got wonderful help lined up for the next month. Whatever it is, I’m hoping it lasts.

Kaitlyn Bastone joined our happy little family today at 12:23pm. She weighed in at 7lb 10oz, and was 20″ long. She met her big sister Julia this afternoon, and so far, has welcomed her with open arms. (I’m surprised too.)
This is going to be a quick post, as I need to get back to the hospital to stay with Sharon and Kaitlyn. We’re still not committed on a middle name yet, but I think we’re getting close. I’ve also uploaded a few pictures while I’m taking a really quick break to put Julia to bed.

So Julia is continuing to keep us entertained. She’s just picked up kissing us, and she will kiss Sharon or me on her terms only. She walks right up to us, looks right in our face, and then goes in for the kiss. It’s really quite cute.
Tomorrow is the big day, and Julia’s world will be turned upside down. She will no longer be the single center of attention, and she’ll have to learn how to share the limelight. We’ve tried to use dolls to simulate a baby, and it hasn’t gone too well. Let’s hope things go better this weekend…

Some time in the next week, Sharon will be having the second baby. If she hasn’t gone early by next Thursday, we’ll be doing the c-section then.
I can only say things are getting a little nervous around here. We think we have everything we need, and we’ve been stocking up on diapers and wipes along the way.
